John Stertzer

Dubbed by some as the “most pro-ready player” in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, Stertzer put his polish on display in the 2013 preseason, earning some rare (for a rookie) public praise from RSL Head Coach Jason Kreis at the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup. A big, box-to-box midfielder capable of playing on the outside or at the top of RSL’s midfield diamond, it will be interesting to see just how much the 12^th overall pick from January’s MLS SuperDraft contributes during his rookie year. Expect him to challenge for minutes at outside midfield throughout the season.

2009-12: Played four years at the University of Maryland ... Finished his Terps career with 79 appearances, 49 starts, 25 goals and 13 assists ... Was named a Third Team All-American in his senior season of 2012, First Team All-ACC in 2011 and 2012 and ACC Championship All-Tournament Team in 2012 ... Helped lead Maryland to the NCAA College Cup in 2012, where they lost in the semifinal round

Attended Flint Hill High School in Oaktown, Va.... Named the All-Met Virginia Player of the Year in 2007 ... Was a two-time selection to the Washington Post All-Met First-Team in High School ...
