RSL’s longest-tenured field player, Chris Wingert had one of the best seasons of his 10-year MLS career in 2012, setting career highs and finishing second amongst RSL field players with 31 league games played, 30 league games started and 2,603 minutes played. The always steady Babylon, N.Y. native was consistent as ever last season, playing rock solid defense along the left side and getting forward to help out in the attack well, registering two assists on the season.
Wingert will be hard-pressed to replicate those numbers in 2013, with the 30-year-oldleft back scheduled to miss the first six weeks of the season due to a broken right metatarsal suffered during offseason training. Expect him to be his usual self – smart, disciplined and in ridiculously good shape – when he returns.
