Real Salt Lake came into this offseason looking for depth at just about every position on the field. By most accounts, though, the forward spot was one of the few that was set.

It seems the emergence of Supplemental Draft pick Emiliano Bonfigli has changed that.

The squad has starting forwards Fabián Espíndola and Álvaro Saborío back for another go-around. RSL also have talented Brazilian Paulo Jr. back after an injury filled 2011, and high hopes for youngsters Chris Agorsor and Cody Arnoux.

NEW YORK – Major League Soccer announced Monday the schedule for the 2012 MLS Reserve League season. Each of the 19 MLS clubs will participate in 10 matches for a total of 95 Reserve League games.

Last week, Branden Steineckert released his “Believe” video, which contains a simple four-line chant that ties a number of key elements together in an effective, functional and artistic way. And it appears that RSL players, staff, and, perhaps most importantly, fans, have gotten on board, envisioning this as a new anthem for the team.

In addition, some believe that this could be a landmark moment, not just for the club, but perhaps the entire sport in this country.

SALT LAKE CITY – Throughout preseason, Real Salt Lake have experienced injuries just like any other squad. Unfortunately for RSL, those injuries appear to be lingering and are almost exclusively among key starters.

“I’m not sure that my concern could have increased,” head coach Jason Kreis told media after training on Friday about his anxiety regarding the situation. “It was at maximum level the entire time. It’s going to continue that way.”

Lots to get through in the Saturday News Stand, including a closer look at midfielder Luis Gil, an update on an injured RSL midfielder, analysis of the sign-and-trade return of Eddie Johnson to the ranks of MLS and plenty of material to look at and listen to in the “A/V Club” …
