Real Salt Lake’s most veteran player, Nick Rimando had one of the best seasons of his career in 2013, placing first in MLS amongst goalkeepers with at least 1,000 minutes played with a save percentage of 73 percent and routinely earning points for the Claret-and-Cobalt with miraculous save after miraculous save – one of which earned him 2013 MLS Save of the Year. The Goalkeeper of the Year candidate posted a 14-7-6 league record and registered nine shutouts despite missing seven games due to international duty and illness. The Claret-and-Cobalt struggled without Rimando, going just 2-3-2 without the so-called “Wall of the Wasatch” between the pipes. RSL allowed 1.04 goals per game with Rimando in net, compared to a 1.86 goals against average without him. The U.S. international became just the second player in MLS history to reach 100 regular season shutouts in the season opener and is now just four clean sheets away from tying Kevin Hartman’s all-time MLS record of 112 shutouts.

The Claret-and-Cobalt will expect more of the same in 2014 from Rimando, who is more motivated than ever to keep performing well as he looks to lead RSL to league glory while cementing his role for the U.S. Men’s National Team as they head to Brazil this summer for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
