Most players begin to think about the next stage of their careers after 13 seasons in the pros, the portion involving final contracts, farewell tours and the like. However, most players aren’t like Kyle Beckerman, who continued to improve and reach new heights for both club and country in 2012. The Claret-and-Cobalt captain led the Utah side to all-time highs in points and wins while appearing in two World Cup Qualifiers, captaining the U.S. in its January 2013 friendly against Canada and playing the full 90 in the Stars-and-Stripes’ historic August 2012 1-0 win against Mexico at the famed Estadio Azteca.
The 30-year-old Beckerman should continue to excel in 2013, a year in which he’ll make his 300th career MLS regular season appearance and continue to play a role for the USMNT as it continues its qualifying campaign for the 2014 World Cup Finals in Brazil. Hungry as ever, Beckerman will be ready to lead RSL right out of the gates in his 14th season in MLS.
