Career Summary

Selected by Real Salt Lake with the 12th overall pick of in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, Stertzer made two regular season appearances for the Claret-and-Cobalt before going down with a serious shoulder injury in a Reserve League match last May. The University of Maryland product spent the rest of the 2013 season returning to full fitness. A box-to-box midfielder capable of playing on the outside or at the top of RSL’s midfield diamond, Stertzer will look to stay healthy and compete for minutes with the RSL first-team in 2014.

Professional Career

2016: Appearing 18 times for RSL in 2016 Stertzer started 9 games, logging 777 minutes. Stertzer contributed one assist for the year, a beautifully floated ball that found the head of Yura Movsisyan on June 22 for the tying goal against the New York Red Bulls. He started RSL’s U.S. Open Cup tie victory against the Wilmington Hammerheads playing 117 minutes in the penalty shootout win.

2015: In his third season with RSL, Stertzer made a career-high 19 appearances, with 9 starts.  His first professional goal came in a 2-0 victory over former coach Jason Kreis’ club, New York City FC.  He also made four appearances in CONCACAF Champions League, making two starts as RSL advanced as the top team from its group.


2014: Stertzer saw great progress in his second season with RSL, playing 273 minutes while starting in three of his nine appearances.  However, a fractured tibia cut his season short in August.

 

2013: Made two appearances for the Claret-and-Cobalt in the regular season, registering no goals or assists … Made his professional debut in RSL’s second game of the year, coming on in the 81st minute of the Claret-and-Cobalt’s 1-0 loss at DC United … Made his second and final appearance of the year on March 23 in RSL’s 2-0 loss at FC Dallas … Dislocated his shoulder on May 20 in Reserve League game against Chivas USA; missed most of the rest of the season due to the injury

2009-12: Played four years at the University of Maryland ... Finished his Terps career with 79 appearances, 49 starts, 25 goals and 13 assists ... Was named a Third Team All-American in his senior season of 2012, First Team All-ACC in 2011 and 2012 and ACC Championship All-Tournament Team in 2012 ... Helped lead Maryland to the NCAA College Cup in 2012, where they lost in the semifinal round
