Though he was slightly hampered by various injuries, the always-reliable Wingert had another solid year in 2013, performing well at his left back position in 21 league appearances, 20 of which were starts. RSL’s longest-tenured field player, Wingert even got in on the goal scoring action last year, notching just the second professional goal of his 11-year career in Real Salt Lake’s 3-0 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal win over the Carolina RailHawks on June 26, 2013. Wingert played a big role for RSL in the playoffs, playing and starting in four postseason games and notching one assist.

Wingert will continue to be a solid presence in RSL’s back line for the 2014 season.

CD Guadalajara (Chivas) (MEX), going the distance in a contentious 1-1 draw at Rio Tinto Stadium … Including playoffs, played every minute in RSL’s final 13 contests … Played all 120 minutes in Eastern Conf. LA at Seattle’s Qwest Field … Followed the 1-1 draw in regulation and overtime by keeping RSL’s hopes alive in penalties, burying his 6th round attempt to keep the proceedings going for one more round – which is all it took for RSL to register a 5-4 PK win and the team’s first-ever championship.
