Saborio up for MLS Goal of the Week

Costa Rican striker nominated for his second goal v. Toronto FC

SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake forward Alvaro Saborio is up for MLS Goal of the Week!

Saborio is nominated for his impressive second goal in RSL’s 3-0 win over Toronto FC on Saturday. Midfielder Kyle Beckerman started the play, finding Javier Morales in the middle of TFC’s third with a pass off of his chest. Morales chipped a ball over the top to Saborio, who ran onto it just inside the area and flicked a right-footer off the post and in to make it 3-0.

Saborio now has three goals on the year, with all three of his strikes coming in RSL’s last two games. His brace on Saturday was the 16th multi-goal game of his RSL career. Saborio was nominated for Goal of the Week last week, but finished third in the final voting. The Claret-and-Cobalt has one Goal of the Week win this year, with Beckerman winning the honor in Week 2 for an incredible left-footed strike against San Jose.

The Costa Rican international is up against Montreal’s Marco Di Vaio, Kansas City’s Dom Dwyer, Columbus’ Justin Meram and New York’s Peguy Luyindula for the honor.

Voting for Goal of the Week runs until 12:59 a.m. MT on Friday. Click here to vote for Sabo!
