Saborio up for MLS Goal of the Week

Costa Rican striker nominated for his 19th minute goal v. Galaxy

SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake’s Alvaro Saborio is up for MLS Goal of the Week!

Saborio is nominated for his 19th minute strike in RSL’s 1-1 home opening draw with LA Galaxy on Saturday. Forward Joao Plata made the play, collecting a Javier Morales free kick on the left side and picking out an unmarked Saborio at the back post with a delightful curling cross. The Costa Rican international did the rest, taking an excellent first touch before slamming his five yard half-volley inside the far post.

Saborio is up against LA’s Robbie Keane – who equalized for the Galaxy in the 34th minute on Saturday – Columbus’s Bernardo Anor, Chivas USA’s Erick Torres and FC Dallas’s Fabian Castillo. RSL took home the Goal of the Week last week, with Claret-and-Cobalt Captain Kyle Beckerman earning the honor for his fantastic strike in RSL’s March 15 3-3 draw at San Jose.

Voting for Goal of the Week runs until 12:59 a.m. MT on Friday morning. Click here to vote for Sabo!
