SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake GK Josh Saunders underwent successful surgery to repair a torn left ACL on Tuesday. Saunders will miss six months while recovering from the operation, which was performed by team orthopedic surgeon Dr. Andrew Cooper at Salt Lake Regional Hospital in Salt Lake City.

The 32-year-old Saunders tore his ACL in the Claret-and-Cobalt’s 3-0 win at FC Dallas on July 13. Saunders signed with RSL this offseason after leading the LA Galaxy to back-to-back MLS Cup titles in 2011 and 2012. Prior to his injury, Saunders made three appearances for RSL in MLS play and three starts for the Claret-and-Cobalt in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup action.

Real Salt Lake will return to MLS action this Saturday, when it will take on Eastern Conference power the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena. Saturday’s match will kick at 5:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on ABC 4, ESPN700 AM and 102.3 FM La Gran D/1600 AM.
