RSL’s “Quick Restarts”
- Saturday’s match against New York ran the gauntlet for defender Chris Wingert, who tallied the game’s lone goal but also left the contest due to injury. Wingert’s 28th minute ‘golazo’ – featured on the 101greatgoals.com website – was his first in any competition since May 22, 2010 (@ Chivas USA), a tally that snapped the goal-starved defender’s 146-match scoreless streak to begin his MLS career. However, a gash above his right eye created by the boot of NY’s Juan Agudelo around the 55th minute forced the Babylon, NY native to receive several stitches to close up the wound, which will be re-evaluated upon the team’s return to Salt Lake City and puts him in doubt for Saturday’s 2012 season opener at the LA Galaxy.
- After returning to Utah this afternoon and enjoying Monday off, Real Salt Lake will get back to work on Tuesday … however, where exactly the team will train remains to be seen. The Claret-and-Cobalt are hoping to utilize its new America First Field facility for the first time on Tuesday morning, but this weekend’s snowfall will have to melt first in order for that to happen … and with temperatures in Sandy slated for the 50’s the next couple of days, the plan could very well come to fruition. The RSL Communications Department will issue this week’s training schedule once finalized on Monday.
