RSL MATCH PREVIEW & NOTES: REAL SALT LAKE v. CHIVAS USA – SATURDAY, MARCH 24
“MLS Class of 2005” Cohorts Renew Acquaintances with 7:00 p.m. MT Kickoff at Rio Tinto Stadium
SANDY, Utah (Friday, March 24, 2012) – Real Salt Lake (2-0-0, 6 pts.) will look to maintain its perfect start in 2012 tomorrow, Saturday, March 24, when it will play host to Chivas USA (0-2-0, 0 pts.) in the second home match of its 2012 MLS regular season slate. Kickoff at Rio Tinto Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m. MT, while the festivities at RSL’s Sandy “fortress” will begin at 5:00 p.m. with the opening of the Carnival Real pre-game festival on the stadium’s East Lawn.
While tickets for the Real Salt Lake-Chivas USA contest remain available, with redemption for the Seven Peaks’ “Pass of all Passes” taking place on Saturday morning fans are advised to purchase their tickets in advance via the Zions Bank Ticket Outlet on RealSaltLake.com. Fans that can’t make it to Rio Tinto Stadium can watch the proceedings live in high-definition on CW30, the broadcast starting at 7:00 p.m. and concluding with a 30-minute post-game wrap-up show at 9:00 p.m. Fans will also be able to listen to the action live via the team’s official radio partners: ESPN 700/ESPN700Sports.com, La Gran D 102.3 FM and Juan 1600 AM.
Real Salt Lake’s roster has been inching back towards full health since the start of the campaign two weeks ago, with MF Javier Morales and FW Álvaro Saborío both upgraded to probable for tomorrow’s contest and DF Nat Borchers and MF Will Johnson listed as questionable, while only FW Cody Arnoux (L adductor strain) is completely ruled out of action. Chivas USA enters the “MLS Class of 2005” reunion against RSL coming off a pair of tough 0-1 defeats at home and will likely be without the services of star striker Juan Pablo Ángel, who is still suffering from concussion-like symptoms after missing last weekend’s defeat against Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

RSL History v. Chivas USA
While RSL enters Saturday’s affair against Chivas USA trailing 7-9-4 in the all-time regular season series, most of that damage was inflicted in the early years of the rivalry, as the Claret-and-Cobalt are undefeated in their last five contests against the Goats (4-0-1) dating back to 2009. RSL is 4-2-3 against Chivas USA at home, including last year’s 1-0 win (Johnson 87) on May 7 that was infamously marred by a horrific left ankle injury suffered by MF Javier Morales that kept the RSL playmaker sidelined for the next four months. The Utah side would also post a favorable 1-0 result in the second meeting of the season on August 27, FW Álvaro Saborío’s 11th minute goal holding up despite RSL having to play a man down for the final 66 minutes.
