Real Salt Lake must be breathing a little sigh of relief after hearing the news that Colorado will be without Omar Cummings’ hot foot for their crucial Rocky Mountain Cup tilt on Saturday.

The Rapids coaching staff opted to keep the Jamaican international from traveling to Sandy, Utah, in hopes that his left ankle sprain, an injury picked up in a 3-0 victory over New England last weekend, will mend before their two-game homestand – against Philadelphia on Sept. 29, and against D.C. United on Oct. 2.

Cummings has scored 10 goals so far this season, five of which have come in the past five games. He and Conor Casey, who shares the team lead for goals with Cummings, form one of MLS' most fearsome striking tandems.

New Rapids forward Macoumba Kandji will likely replace Cummings in his absence. Kandji was recently acquired from New York and played his first game with Colorado against New England, providing the assist on his team’s third goal.
