The 28-year-old, who was obtained on loan from FC Sion of the Swiss First Division in March, led his team to a 3-1 victory over an always tough Houston side.
In the 24th minute, with the score already 1-0 in their favor, RSL’s Robbie Russell and Javier Morales strung together a series of passes that led Morales into the Dynamo’s 18-yard box. Morales was able to poke the ball away from defender Adrian Serioux and onto Saborío, who sent a screamer between two Houston defenders, Pat Onstad and the near post to get his name on the score sheet.
Twenty-six minutes later, Saborío would make his presence felt again, this time scoring with his head. Morales again served his teammate, this time with a beautiful cross from a set piece from the left side. Onstad had no chance as Saborío appeared alone to head the ball right past him.
With that brace, the Costa Rican international brought his total tally up to four in eight games.
This marks Saborío’s first MLS Player of the Week award.
Next up for Real Salt Lake (4-3-1) is a visit to the Home Depot Center to face Chivas USA on May 22.
