Gold Cup

01 August 2:58 pm

Real Salt Lake’s Kyle Beckerman, Tony Beltran and Nick Rimando finally returned to Salt Lake on Thursday, coming back to the Claret-and-Cobalt after spending the last month with the U.S. national team at the CONCACAF Gold Cup and the MLS All-Stars for Wednesday’s All-Star Game.

Here are a few interesting numbers from the trio’s stint away from RSL.

32

Beckerman, Beltran and Rimando spent 32 days away from RSL, leaving the team on June 30 following the club’s 1-0 win at Toronto FC before returning to Salt Lake on Thursday. RSL played four matches while the trio was gone, posting a 1-2-1 record against Philadelphia, Dallas, Kansas City and New York.

1,102

Beckerman, Rimando and Beltran combined to play 1,102 minutes while away from RSL. Rimando totaled the most minutes of the trio, playing 450 minutes in the Gold Cup and 45 in Wednesday’s All-Star Game. Beckerman wasn’t far behind notching 382 minutes – and three assists – for the U.S. and starting and playing the first 45 in the ASG. Beltran totaled 180 minutes, going the full 90 in both the U.S.’s win over Cuba at Rio Tinto Stadium on July 13 and in the All-Star Game on Wednesday night.

10,954

RSL’s international/All-Star trio flew a distance of 10,954 miles over the last month. Assuming they were all non-stop, here are the nine flights KB5, Tony and Nick were on during the last month:

Toronto to San Diego; San Diego to Portland; Portland to Salt Lake City; Salt Lake City to Hartford; Hartford to Baltimore; Baltimore to Dallas; Dallas to Chicago; Chicago to Kansas City; Kansas City to Salt Lake City

That’s a lot of frequent flyer miles, all four time zones and way too many hotel rooms.

Between Sunday’s Gold Cup Final, Wednesday’s All-Star Game, Saturday’s MLS match at Colorado and Wednesday’s U.S. Open Cup match against Portland, Beckerman and Rimando – Beltran is suspended for this weekend’s Rocky Mountain Cup match – will be eligible to play in four different competitions in a span of just 11 days.

When Beckerman, Beltran and Rimando left RSL after the team’s 1-0 win at Toronto, RSL was in first-place in MLS. Despite two-straight losses, that’s exactly where the Claret-and-Cobalt stand now, with three of the team’s top players returning to the fold.

29 July 9:55 am

Real Salt Lake's Nick Rimando, Kyle Beckerman, Tony Beltran and the rest of the U.S. national team were crowned CONCACAF Gold Cup champs on Sunday, beating Panama 1-0 in the tournament final at Soldier Field.

Rimando went on a bit of an Instagram spree after the match, posting a bevy of pictures from the postgame locker room celebration. Check 'em out below:

Rimando, Beckerman and Beltran are all traveling to Kansas City on Monday ahead of Wednesday's MLS AT&T All-Star Game against Italian side AS Roma. The RSL trio will return to the Claret-and-Cobalt on Thursday ahead of Saturday's decisive 2013 Rocky Mountain Cup Presented by Mark Miller Subaru match at the rival Colorado Rapids.

18 July 7:52 am

U.S. manager Jurgen Klinsmann made four swaps in his CONCACAF Gold Cup squad on Wednesday, bringing in Sporting Kansas City defender Matt Besler, LA defender Omar Gonzalez, San Jose forward Alan Gordon and Seattle forward Eddie Johnson and sending home Houston's Corey Ashe, Philadelphia's Jack McInerney and ex-MLS players Herculez Gomez and Oguchi Onyewu.

Besler's call-up means the Sporting Kansas City defender will miss Saturday's RSL-SKC match at Rio Tinto Stadium. His absence will be a big one; the 2012 MLS Defender of the Year is Sporting's best defender, playing a crucial role in organizing SKC's back four, distributing well, posing an offensive threat on set pieces and locking down opposing strikers.

A very limited number of tickets are still available to Saturday's 8:00 p.m. match, which will be followed by a postgame fireworks display in celebration of Pioneer Day. Click here to get yours

Real Salt Lake defender Tony Beltran talked with U.S. Soccer about his opportunity with the U.S. national team in the Gold Cup. It's a nice piece; check it out above.

Beltran and RSL teammates Kyle Beckerman, Nick Rimando and the U.S. return to action tomorrow night, when they'll take on Claret-and-Cobalt forward Alvaro Saborio and Costa Rica in Group C's deciding match.

Great story on Real Salt Lake midfielder Yordany Alvarez and his decision to defect from Cuba in 2008 from KSL's Dave McCann. It's a powerful piece; watch a tease above and check out the whole story here.

Cuba will be in action at Rio Tinto Stadium at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, when they'll take on RSL's Kyle Beckerman, Tony Beltran, Nick Rimando and the U.S. national team in a Gold Cup Group C game. Claret-and-Cobalt forward Alvaro Saborio will be in action at the RioT at 4:00, when he'll captain Costa Rica in a Group C match against Belize.

Alvarez and the rest of the Real Salt Lake squad are currently in Dallas, where they'll take on FCD in a battle of the top-two teams in the Western Conference at 7:00 p.m. Saturday night on CW30.

Portland's fans unveiled quite the tifo for Tuesday night's U.S.-Belize Gold Cup match, unfurling several huge banners and a green, "Cascadia" Uncle Sam just prior to the start of the Stars-and-Stripes' 6-1 Group C win at Jeld-Wen Field.

You know by now that the U.S. is coming to Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday for a Group C doubleheader. RSL's Kyle Beckerman, Tony Beltran, Nick Rimando and the rest of Jurgen Klinsmann's side will take on Cuba at 1:00 p.m. MT, with Claret-and-Cobalt forward Alvaro Saborio and Costa Rica playing Belize immediately afterwards at 4:00 p.m. The game will be a great chance - the second one this summer, of course - for Salt Lake fans to put a unique stamp on a national team match. Portland did it last night - let's get after it in our own way on Saturday.

09 July 9:35 pm

Real Salt Lake midfielder Kyle Beckerman dropped an absolute dime on the U.S.'s second goal in Tuesday's Gold Cup Group C opener against Belize, curling a beauty of a cross into San Jose forward Chris Wondolowski for a headed goal in Portland.

Check out Kyle's gorgeous cross above. Some Twitter love for the Claret-and-Cobalt captain is below:
